Budgeting for a romantic but inexpensive wedding 4

Wedding gifts

Be sure to register for gifts.  Some people are a little out of touch with regards to what couples starting out need nowadays.  If you don’t register for what you want then you may wind up with more gravy boats than you might possibly need.

Registering for gifts is easy, and in many cases can be a lot of fun as you and your fiancé go through a store and pick the sorts of things you would like to receive as gifts.  If certain guests don’t want to follow your registry then so be it, but you can rest assured that many guests will breathe a sigh of relief that they have a list in their hands of the sort of gifts you would adore.

Be sure to mix up your list a little.  Include items on there which are inexpensive in addition to moderately priced items and expensive items as well.  This way people don’t have to break the bank to please you, and there are also more expensive options in case a group of people want to go in on a gift together.

One word of caution, though: it is considered improper to list on your invitations the location of your registry.  If guests are curious as to the location of your registry then they can ask you or someone else involved in the wedding, such as your mother or the mother of the groom.

The good news is you’ll probably make some money.  Although it is generally considered bad form to announce you would like monetary gifts in lieu of other gifts for the wedding you can rest assured that many guests will probably be handing over to you some checks and envelopes stuffed with cash anyhow.

Whether it’s because they don’t know what sort of gifts you would like or instead if they genuinely want to help you start your new life together with a cash gift, brides and grooms usually do pretty well in the monetary gift department.  Unless you are opposed to it, you can increase your odds of making some money at the reception by having a money tree or by conducting a dollar dance.  Both are considered acceptable, and both will probably yield enough money to at least ensure you have some cash to burn on your honeymoon.

Money makes the world go around, and money is what makes a wedding ceremony and reception happen too.  If you are responsible with your money when planning the wedding and stick to a sensible budget then you will be in the enviable position of starting your life together as a married couple without the burden of debt associated with the wedding.
